Everybody knows that having success is not due to the fact that the individual person is smart, it really depends on team work. When the team is performing well you are be able to perform well. For some this is a load of rubbish but in order to proof them wrong I now have the results proven !
Recent studies have proven that when its concerns rewarding people financially, the feel good factor and personal satisfaction is increased when we know what the other person has been rewarded or what he has achieved. In more medical terms, the reward center in the brain shows increased activity.
One area in particular, the ventral striatum, the region where part the 'reward system' is located. In this area, we observed an activation when the player completed his task correctly."
A wrong answer, and no payment, resulted in a reduction in blood flow to the "reward region". But the area "lit up" when volunteers earned money, and interestingly showed far more activity if a player received more than his partner.
This indicated that stimulation of the reward centre was not merely linked to individual success, but to the success of others!
So, clearly, team work pays off, if your colleague is earning more than you than you reward system is ready to be boosted ! Go for it and be a winner, your brain will thank you for it (not to mention your boss too...)
